BMW next-generation 3 Series enters final testing phase
BMW is conducting final driving-dynamics testing for the next generation of its 3 Series sedan at the Miramas proving grounds in southern France. Following winter testing in Arjeplog, Sweden, and sessions at the Nürburgring, the prototypes are undergoing final tuning for handling and ride comfort.
The upcoming lineup will follow a ‘Technology-open’ strategy, offering both fully electric models under the Neue Klasse design language and internal combustion engine (ICE) versions. The ICE models will feature 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines equipped with 48V mild-hybrid technology.
The flagship combustion model, the M350 xDrive, will feature a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine producing approximately 443 horsepower and 580 Nm of torque. This model is expected to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds. A notable new feature is the ‘Drift Moment,’ which allows the driver to send 100% of power to the rear wheels for controlled sliding. This feature is scheduled to be released via a remote software update in 2027, after production begins in the second half of 2026.
