BMW to discontinue several models amid electric transition

BMW is reportedly restructuring its vehicle lineup to make room for its upcoming 'Neue Klasse' electric architecture. This strategic shift involves discontinuing several established models to streamline the portfolio.

Production of the Z4 roadster has already concluded, with no successor planned. The luxury 8 Series is also expected to be phased out, as the cost of updating its aging platform for the new architecture is deemed economically unviable. Other models facing potential discontinuation include the X4, which may be replaced by the all-electric iX4, as well as the XM plug-in hybrid and the 2 Series Active Tourer.

Even existing electric models are affected; the BMW i4 may be phased out to avoid internal competition with the new i3, which is designed to occupy the electric mid-size segment under the new generation platform.
