BMW to launch entry-level Neue Klasse electric hatchback by 2028

During its Capital Market Day, BMW confirmed plans to expand its electric vehicle lineup with a new entry-level model based on the Neue Klasse platform. Expected to launch in 2028 with a focus on the European market, the new model—likely to be named the i1—is anticipated to be a five-door hatchback with the internal code NB0.

The i1 is expected to sit between the MINI Cooper Electric and the BMW iX1 in the brand’s hierarchy. While specific technical details remain unconfirmed, reports suggest the vehicle may feature a rear-wheel-drive layout for standard versions and an all-wheel-drive system for higher trims, utilizing an 800V architecture.

In addition to the compact EV, BMW is exploring a new luxury SUV positioned above the current X7, specifically tailored to meet demand in the United States market. This potential addition could take the form of an even larger SUV or a coupe-style variant. The company continues to roll out Neue Klasse technology across various segments, including the iX3 and i3 models.
