BMW unveils artificial engine sound for upcoming electric M3 performance car

BMW revealed that its forthcoming electric M3 will feature a unique synthetic engine sound designed to give drivers audible cues for speed and gear‑shift feel. Rather than copying the tones of traditional V8, V10 or straight‑six engines, engineers studied iconic M‑car sounds to create a high‑pitched, aggressive note that changes with simulated gear changes and avoids the flat drone common to high‑performance electric motors.

The system, tested on the Nürburgring, aims to provide intuitive feedback for the EV’s rapid acceleration, enhancing driver confidence and the vehicle’s “M DNA.” BMW’s M‑division sales manager Sylvia Neubauer emphasized that the electric M3 will retain the brand’s character and maneuverability, while still offering conventional combustion models for customers who prefer them.
