BMW unveils new 3 Series generation with electric i3 and petrol models

BMW has unveiled the next generation of its 3 Series, marking a significant technological shift toward the Neue Klasse era. A major change for the European market is the discontinuation of diesel engines in the new lineup, which is expected to arrive for the 2027 model year. Instead, BMW will focus on a variety of powertrains, including petrol engines with 48V mild-hybrid technology and plug-in hybrids.

The new generation features the fully electric BMW i3, which utilizes sixth-generation eDrive technology, an 800-volt architecture, and cylindrical battery cells. The top-tier i3 50 xDrive is expected to offer a WLTP range of up to 912 km and support DC fast charging of up to 400 kW.

For internal combustion enthusiasts, the lineup will include petrol models such as the M350 xDrive, which features a 3.0-liter straight-six engine producing 443 hp. BMW is also preparing a Touring (wagon) version of the 3 Series, which will be available in both combustion and fully electric i3 variants.
