BMW unveils first all‑electric M3 concept at 2026 Le Mans 24 Hours

BMW used the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans race in France to unveil the M Concept Neue Klasse, a concept car that previews the brand’s first fully electric M3. The prototype, coded ZA0, is powered by four individual electric motors, an 800‑volt system and a high‑voltage battery of more than 100 kWh, delivering an estimated output of 800–1,000 horsepower. The car features BMW’s new “Heart of Joy” control software, a distinctive shark‑nose front, new M Yellow lights and extensive use of natural‑fiber components. Oliver Heilmer, BMW’s design chief for the Neue Klasse, said the new styling “embodies a strong expression of the Neue Klasse: determined and functional.” The concept also signals that a conventional M3 and a touring version will continue alongside the electric model, which is slated for public reveal in 2027 and production in 2028. During the same weekend, BMW’s M Hybrid V8 secured the first pole position in the race’s history, underscoring the link between the brand’s motorsport heritage and its electric future.
