BMW unveils i3 First Edition and dual‑power M3 EV and petrol models

BMW showcased the i3 First Edition at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, offering the electric 3‑Series sedan in a new M Le Castellet Blue colour with a starting price of £57,905 in the UK. The limited‑run version includes the M Sport package, a 3D head‑up display, Harman Kardon sound system, 22 kW AC charging, and optional features such as a panoramic roof. Orders began in mid‑June, production is set to start in Munich in August, and deliveries are expected in the autumn.

Separately, BMW confirmed that the next generation M3 will be sold in two distinct versions. An electric model, internally coded ZA0, will feature four motors, an 800‑volt architecture and a battery over 100 kWh, delivering between 800 and 1,000 bhp with software‑controlled torque distribution via the new “Heart of Joy” system. In parallel, a conventional petrol‑powered M3 (G84) will retain an updated turbocharged straight‑six, possibly with hybrid assistance, targeting buyers who require longer range or lack reliable charging. The dual‑track strategy highlights BMW’s approach to balancing electrification with traditional performance demand.
