BMW shifts strategy with Neue Klasse electric models and cost-cutting
BMW is undergoing a major strategic shift toward electrification and cost efficiency. A central focus is the upcoming generation of vehicles built on the Neue Klasse platform. This includes a new electric 3 Series (i3) expected to offer up to 906 km of range and an electric M3, which will feature a quad-motor setup designed for enhanced agility rather than just raw power. The electric M3 is expected to debut around 2027 or 2028 and will be sold alongside a traditional internal combustion engine version to provide consumer choice.
To support this transition, BMW is implementing significant operational changes. The company plans to increase the use of standardized components to reduce costs and accelerate development, while simultaneously aiming to reduce management positions by 20 percent by mid-2027. In China, BMW aims for 95 percent of its sales to be locally produced by 2030. Additionally, the brand is moving away from diesel engines, with the new 3 Series lineup omitting diesel options for the first time in over 40 years.
