BNB Chain activates Jenner hardfork on BSC testnet

BNB Chain has activated the Jenner hardfork on the BNB Smart Chain (BSC) testnet, introducing several technical upgrades aimed at improving payment processing and asset standards.

A primary feature of the upgrade is the ‘Payment Lane’ mechanism, established through BEP-703. This system reserves 5% of each block’s gas capacity for eligible transactions to ensure they can be processed even during periods of high network congestion. Eligible transactions include native BNB transfers to accounts without deployed code and transactions sent to payment contracts approved via network governance. Governance has the authority to adjust this reserved gas allocation up to a maximum of 10%.

Additionally, the hardfork introduces millisecond block timestamps for smart contracts and support for the CAS20 asset standard, which provides functionality for new compliant digital assets. The upgrade is currently undergoing testing on the testnet, with a mainnet rollout previously targeted for late November.
