BNB Chain announces design forum for NewL1 Layer 1 network
BNB Chain has launched a community forum to discuss the design of its upcoming Layer 1 network, referred to as ‘NewL1’. The proposed network is intended to be an independent blockchain with its own consensus and settlement functions, designed to complement the existing BNB Smart Chain (BSC) via a planned native bridge.
Key technical design goals for NewL1 include processing over 100,000 transactions per second, achieving transaction preconfirmation in less than 50 milliseconds, and reaching block finality in under one second. The network is expected to be Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible, allowing developers to migrate existing smart contracts and tools. The architecture aims to support trading, payments, and artificial intelligence tasks, including use cases for AI agents.
Notably, BNB Chain does not plan to issue a new token for this network; instead, BNB will serve as the sole gas token for all transaction fees. The proposed architecture includes features such as ‘TxStream’ to reduce front-running risks by sending transactions directly to block leaders, and various privacy-enhancing functions. While technical discussions regarding consensus, storage, and post-quantum security are underway, the project is still in the design phase. Current projections suggest a testnet launch by late 2026, with a mainnet expected in early 2027.
