BNDES President Mercadante discusses share sales and record profits
Aloizio Mercadante, president of the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), stated that there is no dogma within the institution regarding the sale of shares in its portfolio. He noted that the bank's holdings have yielded R$ 57 billion since 2023.
Mercadante reported that BNDES achieved a profit of R$ 9.2 billion in the first half of 2026, representing a 25% increase compared to 2025. This figure marks the second-highest profit in the financial system for that period.
The bank is focusing on increasing systemic economic efficiency through investments in infrastructure, such as the Via Dutra highway, and has reached record levels of agricultural financing. Future investment interests include rare earths, flying cars, and artificial intelligence.
