BNDES releases R$ 18 million for Roraima agroforestry project
The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) has released R$ 18 million for the initial stage of an agroforestry project led by Courageous Land Roraima SPE S. A. The initiative aims to implement agroforestry systems across 2,000 hectares of degraded land in southern Roraima, specifically centered around Rorainópolis.
This disbursement is part of a R$ 116 million financing package from the Climate Fund (Fundo Clima). The total estimated investment for the project is approximately R$ 340.8 million, with the remaining R$ 224.8 million expected to come from other sources. The project involves planting roughly 9.7 million seedlings, integrating economic crops such as coffee, cocoa, açaí, banana, pepper, and coconut with native timber species like ipê and castanheira.
Environmentally, the project is expected to remove approximately 33,900 tons of CO2 equivalent annually. Economically, the implementation phase is estimated to create 603 direct and indirect jobs, rising to 682 positions once the systems are fully established. The funds will cover inputs, labor, civil and agro-industrial works, machinery, and working capital.
