Bündnis 90/Die Grünen announce new strategic goals in Germany
Following recent elections, Bündnis 90/Die Grünen are proposing new strategic directions to strengthen democratic engagement and counter rising right-wing extremism. In Saxony-Anhalt, the party leadership has submitted a motion for the upcoming state party congress on November 21 in Magdeburg. The proposal focuses on opening party structures to the public, increasing presence in rural areas, and utilizing party spaces as community meeting points.
The motion follows the September 6, 2026, state election results, where the AfD became the largest force with 43.8 percent of the vote. The Greens reported their best result in Saxony-Anhalt to date with 8.9 percent and eight seats in the state parliament.
In Osnabrück, the Green party emerged as the strongest force in the recent local elections. While the party has held discussions with other democratic groups regarding potential cooperation, a majority coalition has not yet been formed. The party intends to focus on climate protection, affordable housing, and social justice during the new council period.
