Bánffy Castle unveils Europa Nostra heritage award plaques

Bánffy Castle in Răscruci has officially unveiled commemorative plaques recognizing its receipt of the Europa Nostra 2026 European Heritage Award and the Europa Nostra Audience Award. The ceremony, held at the historic monument, brought together representatives from the Europa Nostra Association, architects, restorers, and regional administration officials.

The recognition follows an extensive restoration and conservation project valued at approximately 11.5 million euros, funded through European and local sources. The project successfully transformed the noble residence from a state of advanced degradation into a modern cultural landmark. The castle is noted for its adherence to high restoration standards regarding wood, canvas, glass, and stone, and for its integration into the regional tourism and educational circuits as a multicultural space.
