BNG announces railway service improvements in Galicia
The Bloque Nacionalista Galego (BNG) has announced significant improvements to railway services in Galicia, scheduled to take effect on October 15. These enhancements to Medium Distance and Avant services are the result of negotiations between the nationalist party and the central government in Madrid.
According to BNG deputy Néstor Rego, the changes will add 400,000 seats annually, representing an increase of more than 1,000 seats per day. Specifically, service on the Atlantic Axis (Eje Atlántico) will see a 24% increase in capacity, while Avant services will increase by 7%. To accommodate this growth, higher-capacity S106 and S121 series trains will be utilized.
Local BNG spokesperson Xabier P. Igrexas emphasized that these advancements demonstrate the value of having a dedicated Galician political voice in the Spanish Congress. While celebrating these improvements, the party noted that further work is required, including the implementation of commuter rail services in Galicia and ensuring that current railway transport subsidies are extended through at least 2027.
