BNG challenges Casa47 housing strategy and government security spending
The Bloque Nacionalista Galego (BNG) has called on the Spanish Ministry of Housing to revise the strategy of Casa47, a state entity. The BNG argues that Casa47 is offering rental properties in Vigo at market prices rather than truly social rates, noting that 67 units were recently allocated despite a demand for protected housing exceeding 10,000 people in the city.
Senator Carme da Silva Méndez has requested detailed information regarding the location, characteristics, and pricing of these assets. The BNG advocates for the transfer of assets from SAREB to the Xunta de Galicia to manage them as a public social housing park, specifically targeting low-income groups, youth, and pensioners.
In a related development regarding government spending, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda has paid over 850,000 euros to Securitas Seguridad España S.A. over the last 18 months. These funds were used to secure construction sites for Casa47 public housing projects. This contract has drawn scrutiny due to previous technical failures by the company and its partners in managing anti-violence monitoring devices for victims of gender-based violence.
