BNG ends coalition with PSOE in A Coruña municipal government
Avia Veira, spokesperson for the Galician Nationalist Bloc (BNG) and mayoral candidate in A Coruña, announced on Monday that the BNG is terminating the agreement of objectives it had with the PSOE‑led municipal government headed by Mayor Inés Rey. Veira cited repeated failures by the socialist administration to fulfil commitments in areas such as urban planning, sport, culture and the environment, and accused the executive of acting as if it possessed a majority in the city council.
The decision was taken less than a year before the scheduled municipal elections in May 2027. Veira warned that the BNG will not align with the right‑wing parties and emphasized that, despite the break, the local government will continue to implement approved budgets and carry out ongoing improvements.
The breakup of the coalition could reshape the political dynamics in A Coruña ahead of the upcoming elections.
