KPK detains 14 people in BNPB corruption sting operation
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted a sting operation at the National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB), resulting in the detention of 14 individuals. Among those detained is the BNPB Secretary Main (Sestama), Rustian, along with several commitment making officials and private sector representatives.
The operation is suspected to involve corruption related to the procurement of goods and services using disaster readiness funds (Dana Siap Pakai). During the operation, the KPK seized approximately Rp1.4 billion in cash and various precious metals, including gold bars and gold savings.
KPK Chairperson Setyo Budiyanto noted that the agency is considering the possibility of applying the death penalty for corruption committed during national disasters, as permitted under Article 2, paragraph (2) of the Anti-Corruption Law. The BNPB has stated it respects the legal process and will cooperate with the investigation.
