BNP criticized for failing to implement July Charter

Critics have accused the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) of failing to implement the ‘July Charter’ despite previous commitments. During a seminar organized by the Referendum Implementation Civil Forum, former Dhaka University professor Dilara Chowdhury and former International Crimes Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam expressed concerns regarding the party's direction.

Chowdhury stated that the BNP has failed to unite the people and has not learned from the past, noting that the party's current stance appears to run contrary to public aspirations following the recent revolution. She highlighted unresolved issues such as electricity and gas shortages, suggesting that leadership must adhere to the July Charter to restore stability.

Tajul Islam remarked that while the BNP had the opportunity to become heroes by fulfilling their promises, their failure to implement even a single letter of the charter over the last six months has turned them into ‘villains’. He also criticized the party's role as the main opposition in parliament, claiming they have failed to fulfill their responsibilities to hold the government accountable.
