BNP Paribas signs five-year Google Cloud deal to deploy agentic AI

BNP Paribas has entered into a five-year partnership with Google Cloud to accelerate the deployment of agentic AI across its operations. The agreement provides the French banking group with access to Google Cloud infrastructure and Gemini Enterprise, including a library of over 200 open-source AI models.

The bank intends to use these tools to develop purpose-built AI agents to support various workflows, with an initial focus on Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB). Early use cases include automating elements of corporate credit memo preparation, with future plans to expand into sales, trading, research, and structuring functions. Additionally, the bank plans to integrate Gemini models into its internal generative AI assistant, LLM@CIB, which is currently used by more than 65,000 employees.

BNP Paribas is targeting significant financial returns from this digital transformation, with projections suggesting up to $853 million in value creation. According to bank leadership, this value may manifest as revenue generation through pricing optimization, cost savings via process optimization, or risk avoidance. The bank emphasized that all AI deployment will remain subject to its existing security and data governance frameworks, noting that sensitive data categories will not be stored in public cloud environments.
