BNPB Head replaced following KPK corruption sting operation
President Prabowo Subianto has replaced Letjen TNI Suharyanto as the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) with Letjen TNI Kristomei Sianturi. The leadership change follows a corruption sting operation (OTT) conducted by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) at the BNPB on October 13, 2026.
The investigation concerns alleged corruption in the procurement of goods and services related to disaster preparedness funds. The KPK has named five suspects, including Bima Setiawan, the brother of the former BNPB head and a sub-director at the agency. While Suharyanto's removal does not inherently prove his personal involvement, legal experts suggest the timing is linked to the investigation into his family member.
In response to the operation, the BNPB has stated it respects the legal process and upholds the presumption of innocence. Agency spokesperson Berton SP Panjaitan confirmed that the BNPB will cooperate fully with law enforcement and has instructed its internal inspectorate to conduct an internal review and secure relevant documents.
