Indonesia faces widespread natural disasters and forest fires
Indonesia is currently managing multiple natural disasters across various regions. In Central Kalimantan, three Indonesian Army soldiers reportedly died during forest and land fire (karhutla) suppression operations. A Mi 17V5 helicopter also crashed in the Sungai Perlu waters while conducting water bombing operations in the Tanjung Puting National Park area.
Forest fires are also affecting five regencies, including Luwu, Konawe Kepulauan, Pulau Taliabu, Jayawijaya, and Sragen. In Pulau Taliabu, fires have spread across 13 villages. Meanwhile, in Aceh Barat, authorities are reinforcing 15 riverbank locations with stone embankments to mitigate flood risks, alongside relocating a local elementary school to higher ground.
In response to potential hydrometeorological threats, approximately 800 personnel have been placed on standby in Malang, East Java. Similarly, in Depok, West Java, the Indonesian National Police (Polri) have deployed 305 personnel, including K-9 search dogs and horses, to prepare for floods and landslides. In Aceh Tengah, local disaster management agencies remain on alert for potential follow-up disasters while continuing rehabilitation efforts.
