Bo Bichette booed by Phillies fans as Mets beat Philadelphia

New York Mets infielder Bo Bichette, who signed a three‑year, $126 million contract with the Mets in January, visited Citizens Bank Park for the first time this season during a Mets‑Phillies series. The former free‑agent target of the Phillies was repeatedly booed by the home crowd, a reaction he anticipated after months of speculation that he might have signed with Philadelphia.

The Mets won the game 6‑4, but Bichette went 0‑for‑5, ending his six‑game hit streak. Earlier in the offseason the Phillies had reportedly offered Bichette a seven‑year, $200 million deal, which he turned down in favor of the Mets’ market and competitive outlook. Mets president Dave Dombrowski called losing Bichette a “gut punch.”

Bichette’s performance this month has improved, highlighted by a six‑game hitting streak and a three‑for‑four outing in a 9‑1 win over the Cincinnati Reds, where he credited the chemistry with teammate Juan Soto. Despite the boos in Philadelphia, Bichette said the Mets’ talent, market size, and winning potential were decisive factors in his choice.
