The New York Islanders have named forward Bo Horvat as the team's next captain. Horvat, 31, becomes the 16th captain in franchise history, stepping into the role following the departure of Anders Lee, who signed with the Utah Mammoth in free agency.

Horvat previously served as captain for the Vancouver Canucks from 2019 to 2023. His appointment makes him the second former Canucks player to currently serve as an NHL captain, alongside J.T. Miller of the New York Rangers.

As the Islanders prepare for training camp under head coach Pete DeBoer, Horvat is expected to provide veteran leadership for the roster. Meanwhile, the Vancouver Canucks remain among nine NHL teams currently without a designated captain.
