Bo Nix to sit out Broncos preseason opener against Falcons

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix will not participate in the team’s preseason opener against the Atlanta Falcons. Head coach Sean Payton stated that Nix is recovering well from offseason ankle surgery and is expected to play in the remaining two preseason games, starting with the August 21 matchup against the Green Bay Packers.

Nix, who suffered a fractured ankle during the playoffs, has been a full participant in training camp practices. Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph noted that Nix’s deep-ball accuracy has been “off the charts” during camp.

Regarding Nix’s long-term future, Broncos co-owner and CEO Greg Penner indicated that the team is currently focused on the upcoming season rather than contract extensions. While the organization intends to keep Nix long-term, formal extension discussions are not expected to be actionable until the 2027 league year. Penner noted that negotiations will eventually be handled by General Manager George Paton and Sean Payton.
