Boa Vista begins mapping for Aedes aegypti mosquito traps

The city of Boa Vista has begun mapping residential properties in 14 neighborhoods to implement ovitrampas, specialized traps designed to monitor the presence of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. These traps attract female mosquitoes to deposit eggs, allowing health officials to collect data on the circulation of vectors responsible for dengue, zika, and chikungunya.

Mapping efforts by Endemic Disease Combat Agents are currently underway to identify locations and obtain resident consent, as installation requires homeowner authorization. The selected neighborhoods include Alvorada, Caranã, Cauamé, Cidade Satélite, Dr. Silvio Botelho, Dr. Silvio Leite, Jardim Equatorial, Jóquei Clube, Nova Cidade, Pintolândia, Raiar do Sol, Santa Tereza, Senador Hélio Campos, and São Bento. These areas were chosen due to high numbers of probable arbovirus cases.

Installation is scheduled to begin on Monday, the 17th. Following installation, agents will return within five to seven days to collect internal components for analysis. Health officials emphasize that residents must not move or remove the equipment and should continue traditional prevention methods, such as eliminating standing water in their yards.
