Boa Vista faces ongoing sewage leak and bus stop vandalism

Residents of the Jatobá block in the Vila Jardim residential area of Boa Vista have reported a sewage leak that has persisted for almost two months, creating foul odors, standing water and a surge of mosquitoes. Calls to the local water and sewage company, Caer, and to health authorities have gone unanswered, prompting community members to demand urgent action. Caer later said a technical team was dispatched to assess the situation and advised residents on proper waste disposal to prevent further pipe failures.

Across the city, numerous bus shelters are suffering from vandalism, with broken glass, damaged seats, missing air‑conditioning units and absent lighting reported in neighborhoods such as Senador Hélio Campos, Jardim Caranã and Centro. Municipal officials acknowledge the problem, attributing it to theft and graffiti, and note that repairs strain public resources. The city’s public works department emphasizes that vandalism not only endangers commuters but also diverts funds from other municipal improvements.
