BOAK motorway construction triggers traffic changes in Crete

Ongoing construction work on the BOAK motorway in Crete is leading to significant traffic adjustments and daily inconveniences for commuters. Long-term traffic regulations have been implemented by the Rethymno Police Directorate to facilitate works in specific areas.

In the Heraklion landfill area, from kilometer 102+200 to 104+200, regulations will be in effect 24 hours a day from September 22, 2026, until November 22, 2026. In the Geropotamos area, between kilometer 75+400 and 77+900, restrictions will apply during daytime hours from September 22, 2026, until November 24, 2026.

While the construction causes delays and requires increased driver caution, the project is viewed as a vital investment in Crete's infrastructure. The completed motorway aims to improve safety, support the local economy, and enhance tourism by providing a modern road network for residents and visitors.
