Boankra Logistics Terminal: Ghana seeks $165m to finish project
The Ghanaian government is seeking $165 million to complete the Boankra Integrated Logistics Terminal in the Ashanti Region. The project, which is intended to function as an inland port, is currently 65 percent complete but has stalled due to a lack of funding.
Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene stated that the government is pursuing a multi-sectoral approach to secure the necessary capital. This follows the government's decision to take over the project after the original concessionaire failed to meet its responsibilities. During a site tour with the Regional Security Council, officials noted that several facilities, including a bonded warehouse, a mechanical workshop, and a fire station, are nearing completion.
The contractor, JUSTMOH Construction, reported that the $165 million requirement is needed to finish the operational phase. CEO Dr. Justice Amoh noted that the company is facing significant financial strain, including pressure from suppliers, due to unpaid obligations. The contractor has committed to completing the operational phase in record time once the funding is secured.
