Board of Deputies of British Jews labels Green Party racist
The Board of Deputies of British Jews has passed a motion declaring the Green Party of England and Wales a “racist party.” The decision, which passed with 118 votes to one, follows the Green Party’s recent adoption of a policy motion stating that “Zionism is racism” and calling for a free Palestine “from the river to the sea.”
The Board stated that by adopting what it termed an “antisemitic platform,” the Greens have become a racist organization. The motion urged other political parties to avoid forming coalition deals with the Greens at local or national levels unless the party rejects the policy and commits to overturning it.
Green Party representatives have rejected these characterizations. A party spokesperson stated that the party does not discriminate against individuals based on Zionist views. Additionally, Green Party activist Eugene McCarthy criticized the Board of Deputies, accusing the organization of being “inherently political” and suggesting it is not representative of all Jewish Britons.
