Swedish boat collision near Tjörn leaves mother and child missing

A small motorboat carrying a family of four collided with a commercial vessel off the coast of Tjörn, Sweden, on Tuesday night. The four occupants were a man and a woman in their 40s and two younger children. Rescue crews recovered the man and one child; both were taken to hospital with serious injuries. The woman and her daughter remain missing.

Swedish Maritime Administration (Sjöfartsverket) coordinated a large search effort involving rescue services, ambulance, coast guard, drones, a helicopter and divers. An extra search was later launched by the Swedish Rescue Society. Police have seized the commercial ship and opened a negligence investigation, while a technical inspection of the vessel’s hull is underway.
