Doctor Şahin Bingüllü dies in Ayvalık boat accident

Dr. Şahin Bingüllü, an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialist at Burhaniye State Hospital, has died following a boat accident off the coast of Ayvalık, Balıkesir. The private vessel, named ‘Elifim’, was carrying nine people for amateur fishing when it began taking on water and capsized near Kız Island.

Coast Guard teams rescued eight individuals from the water, including six men and two children. During the incident, survivors reported that Dr. Bingüllü prioritized the safety of the children by ensuring they were wearing life jackets before he entered the water himself.

After an intensive 15-hour search involving Coast Guard boats, a diving team, an unmanned aerial vehicle, and a helicopter, Dr. Bingüllü’s body was recovered approximately 2,200 meters from the site of the sinking. A memorial service was held at Burhaniye State Hospital, attended by colleagues and family, before his remains were sent to his hometown of Adana for burial.
