Boavista SAF sues São Paulo over player sale proceeds
Boavista SAF has taken legal action against São Paulo FC to recover more than R$ 500,000 related to the sale of forward Lucas Ferreira to Shakhtar Donetsk. Under a 2024 agreement, Boavista is entitled to 20% of the net proceeds from the €10 million transfer completed in August 2025.
While São Paulo initially agreed to a settlement of R$ 2.1 million paid in four installments and completed the first three, the final payment due on June 10 remains unpaid. In August, a judge recognized the “probability of the right” of Boavista and ordered São Paulo to pay within 15 days, though the court denied requests to freeze the club's television rights or federation quotas.
In its defense, São Paulo does not contest the debt or the amount but argues that the case should be handled by the Brazilian Football Confederation’s National Dispute Resolution Chamber (CNRD) rather than civil court. Boavista maintains that the contract specifically designates the São Paulo judiciary to resolve disputes.
