Bob Baffert to base stable at Oaklawn Park for first time
Oaklawn Park will begin its 2026–2027 live racing season on November 27, the day after Thanksgiving, marking the earliest opening day in the track's history. The upcoming season features a significant addition to the backstretch, as Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert will maintain a stable division in Hot Springs for the first time.
Baffert joins a roster of 111 trainers from 18 states and two countries. The season will see the return of top trainers, including Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen, who holds the track's training record. Oaklawn president Louis A. Cella noted that strong demand for stalls reflects confidence in the racing program.
The track is scheduled to distribute approximately $60 million in purses throughout the season. The stakes schedule includes a record 61 races, with notable events such as the Arkansas Derby (G1), the Apple Blossom Handicap (G1), and the Oaklawn Handicap (G2), each offering significant prize money.
