Bob Dylan: New book explores early years and musical history

A new book titled ‘Bob Dylan: Through the Open Window, 1956–1963’ is scheduled for release on October 13, 2026, from Abrams Books. Conceived by historian Sean Wilentz, the hardcover work utilizes rare photographs and archival materials to document Dylan’s formative years, tracing his journey from Minnesota to Greenwich Village and his eventual Carnegie Hall performance.

In related musical history, details regarding the 1973 song ‘Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door’ from the Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid soundtrack highlight the session musicians involved. While Roger McGuinn played guitar and Jim Keltner provided drums, the bass part was performed by Terry Paul, who also worked extensively with Kris Kristofferson.
