Julian Alaphilippe retires from professional cycling

Julian Alaphilippe, the two-time road world champion, has officially announced his retirement from professional cycling with immediate effect. The 34-year-old Frenchman will forgo the remaining year of his contract with Tudor Pro Cycling, which was originally set to run through 2027.

Reports indicate that the 2026 Tour de France served as the final turning point for the rider. Alaphilippe, known for his aggressive and charismatic racing style, had struggled to maintain his competitive form in recent seasons. Following the Tour, he expressed uncertainty about his future, stating, “Nothing is official, but don’t expect to see me again.”

Alaphilippe’s career is highlighted by significant achievements, including two world titles (2020, 2021), six Tour de France stage wins, and victories in major classics such as Milan-San Remo and Strade Bianche. His departure marks the end of an era for French cycling.
