Bobblehead dolls become a staple of American pop culture

Bobblehead dolls have become a significant pop-culture icon in the United States. While the figurines originated from head-nodding statues in China and saw popularity in Germany, they gained widespread American traction in the 1960s through sports giveaways at baseball games.

Phil Sklar, founder of the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, describes them as ‘the ultimate Americana’. The museum allows visitors to view a vast collection and learn about the history of these collectible figurines, which feature spring-laden oversized heads and depict a wide range of subjects including athletes, entertainers, and politicians.
