Bobby Charles launches Maine gubernatorial campaign

Republican candidate Bobby Charles has officially launched his general election campaign for governor of Maine. During a campaign stop in Gorham, Charles argued that the current political status quo in the state is failing, asserting that Maine's next leader must prioritize tax reductions while addressing crime and corruption.

Charles, an attorney and former assistant secretary of state, is positioning himself as an outsider to the Augusta political establishment. He has criticized his opponents, Democrat Hannah Pingree and independent Rick Bennett, by highlighting their extensive experience in state government, which he claims has led to a loss of affordability, safety, and public trust in Maine.

Despite his aggressive social media focus on immigration and crime during the primary, Charles currently trails Pingree in recent polling and fundraising. Some polls have indicated a double-digit lead for the Democratic candidate.
