Bobby Liebling Overcomes Travel Chaos to Perform at Wacken 2026

U.S. doom‑metal veteran Bobby Liebling, 72, the founder and frontman of Pentagram, was set to appear at Germany’s Wacken Open Air with his new all‑star project The Limit. Days before the festival, his passport vanished while transiting through Amsterdam, forcing him to return to the United States for a temporary document. After obtaining the new passport he missed his scheduled flight from the U.S. and arrived in Hamburg late on Friday evening, just before the 20:00 show. Festival co‑founder Thomas Jensen warned that “green light” would only be given once Liebling was physically present, but the metal legend made it in time. He performed alongside punk icon Sonny Vincent and Slime drummer Alex Schwers, with the band’s soundcheck and rehearsal taking place in front of the audience.

The incident, amplified by a viral TikTok clip that revived interest in Liebling, highlighted the logistical challenges of international touring and the festival’s flexibility in accommodating a last‑minute arrival.
