Bobby Nasution initiates meeting of Sumatran governors

North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution initiated a meeting of ten governors from across Sumatra during the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) activities in Medan. The meeting aimed to foster collaboration and share ideas regarding the development of Sumatra.

During the coordination meeting, governors signed a memorandum of understanding regarding development plans, synergy, and inter-regional cooperation. Indonesian Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian expressed support for these initiatives, noting that integrated development concepts for the Sumatra region—covering connectivity, economic growth, food, and energy—align with national interests. Karnavian highlighted Sumatra's strategic importance, noting it holds 22 percent of Indonesia's population and occupies a vital geostrategic position along the Indian Ocean and the Malacca Strait.
