Bobo-Dioulasso launches operation to control stray animals
The Commune of Bobo-Dioulasso has launched a special operation to control and capture stray animals and those being raised within urban residential areas. The initiative, which began on September 11, 2026, is scheduled to run until September 15, 2026.
Municipal police are mobilizing across several sectors of the city to enforce regulations regarding livestock in developed urban zones. Seized animals, including sheep and cattle, are being taken to pound facilities. Owners of the animals will be required to pay municipal fines and pound fees.
The operation aims to improve public hygiene, safety, and the living environment by reducing nuisances caused by roaming livestock. This measure follows Article 39 of the Public Hygiene Code, which prohibits livestock rearing in urban areas except in designated locations. Authorities are encouraging breeders to utilize appropriate spaces, such as the Kiri livestock park and designated farms.
