Boca Chica beach faces rising costs and commercial pressure

The beach of Boca Chica, traditionally a popular and affordable destination for Dominican families due to its proximity to Santo Domingo, is facing a shift in character. Visitors are increasingly encountering high prices and commercial pressure that impact the local experience.

Commercial activity has significantly reduced available space on the sand, with rows of tables, chairs, and businesses occupying much of the area. Additionally, frequent approaches by vendors offering food, drinks, massages, and crafts have been noted as a disruption to the tranquility of visitors.

Price increases are evident in local establishments. Seafood dishes such as lobster or paella for two range from RD$3,200 to RD$4,200, while simpler fish dishes cost between RD$1,100 and RD$1,350. Beverage prices have also risen, with large beers priced between RD$300 and RD$350. Many vendors in beach stalls reportedly do not provide official tax invoices.
