Boca Chica fire destroys 22 fish-selling stalls
A fire destroyed approximately 22 commercial stalls used for selling fried fish in the La Bajaita sector of Boca Chica during the early hours of Wednesday. The incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. at the intersection of Duarte Street, Avenida Costa Blanca, and Abraham Núñez.
The structures, primarily built of wood, allowed the flames to spread rapidly. While no injuries have been reported, the fire caused significant material losses for local merchants. Affected business owners, including Altagracia Sala and Juliana Aquino de los Santos, have called on the government for assistance, noting that these stalls provide the primary livelihood for several families.
Authorities and firefighters are investigating the cause of the blaze. Local speculation regarding the origin includes a potential electrical short circuit or a candle left burning in honor of San Miguel, though officials have not yet confirmed a definitive cause.
