Boca del Río implements sanctions for illegal waste disposal
Boca del Río Mayor Maryjose Gamboa Torales announced that authorities will begin imposing strict sanctions on individuals caught dumping trash or construction debris in public spaces and vacant lots. With the operation of the municipal detention center, violators may face both significant economic fines and detention.
According to the municipal Public Cleaning Regulations, fines can range from three to 100 minimum wages, depending on the type and quantity of waste. Authorities have identified specific locations where individuals and businesses illegally dispose of waste, sometimes charging residents to transport debris only to dump it in unauthorized areas.
To combat this, the municipality is coordinating with neighbors to monitor suspicious vehicles, including trucks and tricycles. Citizens are encouraged to report illegal dumping via social media or by calling 229 407 6296.
In separate infrastructure news, the local government has also launched a road reconstruction project in the Virginia residential complex. With a budget of nearly three million pesos, crews will resurface over 4,000 square meters of asphalt on Vasco Núñez de Balboa and Antón Lizardo streets, a project expected to take two and a half months.
