Boca Juniors advances to Copa Argentina quarterfinals after penalty win over Vélez

Boca Juniors advanced to the quarterfinals of the Copa Argentina after defeating Vélez Sarsfield in a penalty shootout following a 0-0 draw at the Mario Alberto Kempes stadium in Córdoba. The match was decided when Boca goalkeeper Álvaro Montero became the hero, saving two penalties from Elías Gómez and Thiago Silvero. Boca's successful conversions came from Lautaro Blanco, Kevin Zenón, Leonel Flores, and Carlos Palacios.

Vélez had a significant opportunity to win the match in stoppage time when Dilan Godoy took a penalty, but his shot struck the post. The match also featured a tribute to Lionel Messi, as the AFA mandated a minute of applause at the ten-minute mark of all official matches following his retirement from the national team.

Boca Juniors will face Racing in the next round. Additionally, there is concern regarding midfielder Leandro Paredes, who had to be substituted due to a hamstring injury during the match, though manager Rodolfo Arruabarrena indicated the issue does not appear to be serious.
