Alvaro Montero to start as Boca Juniors' goalkeeper after Marchesin injury

Colombian goalkeeper Álvaro Montero, purchased by Boca Juniors for US$4 million, has been confirmed as the club's first‑choice keeper following Agustín Marchesín’s right‑knee ligament rupture, which will keep the Argentine international out for several months. Coach Rodolfo Arruabarrena said Montero will start in the upcoming league matches, the Copa Argentina and the Copa Sudamericana round‑of‑16 tie against O’Higgins on 23 July.

Montero arrived from Vélez Sarsfield, where he logged 19 starts, 1 681 minutes, allowed only 14 goals and kept eight clean sheets, posting an 88 % save rate and a 7.69 rating. His performances attracted interest from Boca and the Colombian national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup, and he is the tallest goalkeeper in Boca’s history at 2.01 m.
