Lionel Scaloni reaches agreement to continue as Argentina coach
Lionel Scaloni has reached a verbal agreement with the Argentine Football Association (AFA) to extend his tenure as the head coach of the Argentina national team. Following negotiations with AFA President Claudio Tapia, the parties have reportedly resolved economic and planning differences.
The proposed contract structure includes an initial two-year term lasting until 2028, with a clause for an automatic extension that would allow Scaloni to lead the team through the 2030 World Cup. This potential extension would mark approximately 12 years of continuous leadership for the coach, who assumed the role in 2018.
While the agreement is understood to be settled, an official announcement and formal signing are expected to take place in the coming days or during the November FIFA international window. During this period, Argentina is scheduled to play friendly matches against Uruguay and Costa Rica.
