Boca Juniors pursues San Lorenzo defender Romaña and other targets

Boca Juniors has intensified its pursuit of San Lorenzo centre‑back Jhohan Romaña, but the club’s leadership has refused to negotiate, preferring an overseas sale. President Juan Román Riquelme has also kept interest in another San Lorenzo defender, Alexis Cuello, for whom Boca previously offered $3 million for 60 % of his rights, a proposal the club rejected.

If the Romaña deal falls through, Boca has identified three alternative centre‑backs: Alan Franco of Brazil’s São Paulo, Santiago Núñez of Estudiantes de La Plata, and Mariano Troilo, a 23‑year‑old currently on loan at Parma until 2030. Negotiations for these players are described as complex due to existing contracts and competing commitments.

San Lorenzo’s interim president, Sergio Constantino, remarked, “Quizá alguno hubiese pensado que estamos de remate, vendemos si total hay que pagar. Hay que cambiar ese paradigma,” underscoring the club’s firm stance on player sales.
