Boca Juniors sells Mauricio Benítez to Royal Antwerp
Boca Juniors has completed the sale of midfielder Mauricio Benítez to the Belgian club Royal Antwerp. The transfer is valued at $2.5 million, with an additional $500,000 available through performance-based objectives. Boca Juniors will also retain a percentage of any future sale of the player.
Benítez had previously moved to Belgian football on an 18-month stint starting in early 2025, where he recorded 41 appearances, three goals, and one assist. While Royal Antwerp initially did not exercise a purchase option, they returned with a formal offer.
Because Benítez has not been registered with Boca Juniors' first or reserve squads in the last six months due to his time in Belgium, his departure does not create a new roster vacancy for incoming players. However, the club may still create space for new signings through the potential departures of other players, such as Exequiel Zeballos, Williams Alarcón, or Milton Giménez, before the transfer window closes on September 2.
