Bochemie plans major ammonium perchlorate plant in Bohumín

Bochemie, in collaboration with Second Foundation, plans to establish a major ammonium perchlorate production facility in Bohumín, Czech Republic. The project aims to create one of the largest production sites of its kind in Europe.

The first production line is expected to produce up to 1,000 tons of ammonium perchlorate annually, which is used in rocket fuels and industrial explosives. A second line of equal capacity is planned for a later phase. The company is currently undergoing an environmental impact assessment (EIA).

If approved, construction is scheduled to begin in November, with trial operations potentially starting in December of next year. While the fuel is intended primarily for civilian use, Vojtěch Kačena, majority owner of Second Foundation, noted that military applications cannot be ruled out. The new process will synthesize the chemical from sodium perchlorate and ammonium chloride rather than recycling old fuel.
